Om arrangementet

The nature of conflicts has changed, putting children on the frontline in new and terrible ways. Children are disproportionately suffering the consequences of brutal trends; almost one fifth of children worldwide live in areas affected by armed conflict. The number of grave violations of children's rights in conflict has almost tripled since 1990, constituting not only one of the most urgent human rights concerns in our time, but also a threat to the future of every one of the affected children- and to our common future.

Fortunately recent history has shown that when there is political will, action and funding the protection of children is possible.

Join us for insight and discussions with Ine Eriksen Søreide (Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs), Helen Durham (Director of Interational Law and Policy at the ICRC), Henrik Urdal (Director at PRIO), Birgitte Lange and Gunvor Knag Fylkesnes (Save the Children Norway).

Programme:

- Welcome and Introductions, Birgitte Lange (Save the Children Norway)

- Children and 21st Century Conflicts, Henrik Urdal (PRIO)

- Main Findings in the Stop the War on Children report, Gunvor Knag Fylkesnes (Save the Children Norway)

- Protection of Children in the Norwegian Humanitarian Response, Ine Eriksen Søreide (MFA)

- What are the pressing issues impeding the protection of children in contemporary conflicts? Helen Durham (ICRC)
