In countries with weak formal and informal structures, children are particularly vulnerable to neglect and lack of care. Organizations like SOS Children's Villages are important to care for these children, but cannot solve the systemic challenges.
Structures to protect children must be built gradually and adapted to local context. With this as a backdrop we ask whether Norwegian aid can play a positive role? If so, how?
We have invited international experts on child welfare and institution building to share their perspectives: Dr Chrissie Gale is the Lead of International Programmes at CELCIS, the University of Strathclyde. Alan Kikuchi-White is SOS Children's Villages Representative to the UN in Geneva. We are also looking forward to hearing the perspectives of Hilde Frafjord Johnsen and Jette Christensen.
